User story
As a user, I'd like the Topic page to include a breakdown of top instructors specializing in the topic so that I can find one that covers all of my course needs.
Context
The current “Popular Instructors” module provides light context into the instructor, but does little to add detail around their specialty and the topics they cover. The redesign aims to fix that by improving the UI, and allowing hyperlinks to the instructor’s topics of expertise.
The module design was specified in Figma. The expand/collapse behavior was added after discussion with design, and the design specs for that part come from the Related Topics module.
Acceptance criteria
- Adapt v1 version to the v2 topic template
- Location on the template is still TBD, so don’t worry about location, beyond placing it above the Course Directory built out in a separate ticket
- Design is still being finalized, but it will likely be an adaptation of the current design standard with linkable topics of expertise.
- New fields
- Hyperlinks for the “Topics of expertise”
Open item
Ben to confirm with design whether the cards and the topics of expertise are clickable.
Decisions logged during the build
Summarized from the engineer’s comments on the ticket.
Recorded on the ticket as implementation questions were resolved:
- Smaller screens use the expand/collapse behavior instead of the carousel. The carousel stays on larger screens, above 41rem/656px, the width at which the cards reach their 280px minimum.
- On hover, the background color of the bottom portion of the instructor card stays as is.
- The hover box shadow was removed from this module for now, with a follow-up ticket to revisit it.
