Details are starting to come out about the Norwegian CrossFit Championship, and it’s looking to be one of the most unique events of the year. It’ll be hosted at the remote Storefjell Resort Hotel, about three hours from the main city of Oslo, in an area called Hallingdal.
The area, up in the Norwegian mountains, has less than 5,000 residents and is wildly beautiful under snow or thaw. The resort itself only has 400 hotel rooms, which means you’ll want to plan early if you want to attend this event. It runs from February 14th through the 16th.
They also announced they’d be joining the other European Sanctionals in using the 2020 CrossFit Open as their online qualifier. Those other Sanctionals are CrossFit Strength in Depth, Reykjavik CrossFit Championship, and the CrossFit French Throwdown.
A gigantic “congratulations” to Sean Sweeney. The CrossFit Cowboy and owner of CrossFit Powerstroke in Fallon, Nevada popped the question to his long-time girlfriend Emmily this week. And, like many would if Sweeney asked them, she said yes.
There has been hype around Dave Castro’s latest Instagram post. The picture, featuring podium athletes at the 2019 CrossFit Games has the caption, “150-75-50-40-30-20-10 to 3. Now, on to the Open and the 2020 season.”
While the 150 to 10 portion of the post is the cut schedule from 2019, it looks suspiciously like a rep scheme for a CrossFit Open workout. That remains to be seen: the first official 2020 CrossFit Open workout announcement will be on October 10th.
Side note: the most popular comment on the post is from Jacob Heppner, who’s shocked the list of cuts mention the three podium athletes, joking that it means he got cut.
More and more speculation is arising from yesterday’s news that Scott Panchik is the most likely athlete to join Rich Froning, Tasia Percevecz, and Chyna Cho on CrossFit Mayhem Freedom. Ben Smith continues to be on the short list, along with some rumors about Alex Vigneault. Given the hype, I can only imagine we’re not too far from an official announcement.
CrossFit’s mainsite workout today is keeping it simple, stupid. With 45-pound dumbells for men and 30-pound dumbbells for women, complete five rounds for time of 21 dumbbell thrusters and 15 burpees.
And that’s it for news about CrossFit on Tuesday, September 10th.
