This is the last episode I record from my home in Austin, Texas. On Sunday, I hit the road full-time for my Road Warrior Fitness YouTube series. The series kicked off on Tuesday, and features my dog and I doing epic workouts in epic places as I drive to and report live from every North American CrossFit Sanctional of the 2020 CrossFit Games season.
My first stop will be Spokane, Washington, where I gut a trailer and turn it into a rolling recording studio and gym. Yes. There will be videos…or it didn’t happen. You can follow my YouTube channel by searching YouTube for WODDITY. The next episode drops Tuesday.
Speaking of YouTube series, the Buttery Bros have scheduled the premier of their next big release. It’s a video following them to the Iron Games in Cedar City, Utah. There, they competed on a team alongside Talking Elite Fitness host Tommy Marquez. The video premiers today at 1 PM Central, and you can find the link in my show notes by going to WODDITY.com.
Now, let’s keep things rolling with our series talking through the 2020 CrossFit Games season schedule. Yesterday we talked about the Pandaland CrossFit Challenge and the Dubai CrossFit Championship.
The next event on the season schedule will be the Southfit CrossFit Challenge in the gorgeous city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. There is one SNAFU in the information, though: the CrossFit Games site mentions the event running December 20th and 21st, but Southfit’s website and Instagram pages both state it runs December 6th through the 8th. That would mean it overlaps with the Panadaland CrossFit Challenge. We’ll keep you posted as the dates get ironed out.
Southfit started in 2013 and will host 750 athletes this year. This year it’s using the International Online Qualifier as its qualification method. Final scores are in review for the event, but at the time of writing this, Jean-Simon Roy-Lemaire and Jacob Heppner are leading them men, with Emma Ferreira and Sasha Nievas leading the women. Also notable is Steph Chung, Kelsey Kiel, Zack George, and Augustin Richelme in the top-40.
The CrossFit Mayhem Classic is the dark horse event of the season: the first Sanctional event thrown by a major CrossFit Games athlete. That athlete is four-time consecutive individual CrossFit Games champion and three-time team champion Rich Froning, owner of CrossFit Mayhem.
It’s the first North American Sanctional of the 2020 CrossFit Games season, and WODDITY will be reporting on-site. The Mayhem Classic will run January 11th and 12th, in Cookeville, Tennessee. Froning talked a little bit about the event in his Froning and Friends podcast on June 17th. They’ll only be hosting individuals to avoid any conflict of interest while Rich is still competing on a team. They’ll use the CrossFit Open as the qualifier, accepting 32 men and 32 women. No age groups. Just keeping it simple and hosting a small, intimate event for fans.
Breakout the tea and crumpets: today’s CrossFit mainsite workout of the day is a rest day.
And that’s it for news about CrossFit on Friday, September 13th. Thanks for listening. Be sure to rate, review, subscribe, like, recommend, share, love, discuss, and listen another ten times. I’m Ben Garves. Unless something breaks, let’s chat on Monday.
