Today at 6 PM Pacific is the premier of the second episode of Road Warrior Fitness. I zip over to Miner’s Delight, Wyoming for a workout. Also known as Hamilton City, this little ol’ collection of abandoned buildings is a ghost town that was built for a gold rush in 1860. It’s there that I discover Beaumont likes to do burpees. That’s pretty freaking cute. Then, we head northwest to Spokane, Washington with some car karaoke and a small family history lesson. I’ve put the link in my show notes at WODDITY.com, but you can also find the show by searching YouTube for Ben Garves. Turn on the reminder and it’ll give you an alert when we start the live chat tonight before the premier.
Soledad O’Brien, a long-time CNN morning anchor and now media mogul behind her own Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien series, has tweeted a strong endorsement of CrossFit.
“I was not a big fan of CrossFit when I started,” O’Brien wrote, “Seemed like a bunch of very strong and fit dudes killing themselves lifting weights. But I’ve been at it for a year (with knee surgery in between!) And I was wrong: lots of women, lots of moms, lots of squats! (Argh). Lots of flexibility work. I’ve really grown to love it. But most of all what you realize is: you’re stronger than you think you are. So, in case you’re not sure: you are stronger than you think you are.”
The big story of the day is that CrossFit shared details with the media yesterday about the first CrossFit Open workout announcement of the 2020 CrossFit Games season. For a live stream of the announcement in english, we’ll be turning to Rogue. They’ll be in Austin, Texas with Scott Panchik and Rich Froning on their The Iron Game series. I’ve put a guide on WODDITY you can use to keep track of the live streams, and it’ll include the video starting about 30 minutes before the announcement.
Yes, the announcement. About that. It will be simultaneously live streamed in multiple languages at 5 PM Pacific on Thursday, the 10th of October. As of right now, we have the english announcement with Rogue, Froning, and Panchik, along with an announcement in French and Porguguese. Those will be hosted by the CrossFit French Throwdown and the Brazil CrossFit Championship, respectively. All of those links will be included in our 20.1 Live Stream Guide on WODDITY.com.
What will the 20.1 Open Workout be? That’s a great question that is kept under wraps until these very announcement live streams. What I can say is that the first workout of the CrossFit Open is typically the most widely-accessible, least skill-demanding workout. For example, last year was alternating wall balls and rowing for as many reps as possible. I would expect another burner: either a super quick high-demand test, or a long, high-repetition test of your engine. Whatever it is, we’re all going to enjoy watching Panchik and Froning go head-to-head on it.
Jessica Griffith turns…I don’t know…25? Again? Today. Happy birthday Jess!
And that’s it for news about CrossFit on Thursday, September 26th. Thanks for listening. Be sure to rate, review, and subscribe. It’s the best way to give back to the show, because it helps more people find us. I’m Ben Garves.
